American Made: allen allen usa and CP Shades

Shopping over the weekend, I rediscovered two of my favorite American made women’s contemporary brands: allen allen usa and CP Shades.

I say rediscovered because while working retail in Stillwater, Oklahoma in the early 90’s, the store I worked at carried both of these brands.

I remember saving my retail paycheck to use my retail discount to buy a CP Shades chambray button-up.  I loved it.

I saved the next paycheck and bought a navy, scoopneck allen allen knit dress that had a slit up to my thigh. With my signature stark white keds or tretorns, I rocked that dress for years!

I never should have parted with those pieces. Maybe they are still in one of the many “memory” clothes chests I have stored at my parents?

Founded in 1983 in San Francisco, CP Shades has always been committed to natural fabrics and sustainable processes – long before sustainable became a marketing term. CP Shades continues to design and produce in the San Francisco bay area.

CP Shades is a little hard to track down on the web. I suggest Bird (where I picked up a dress – and yes, it was navy) or Sundance .

allen allen usa was founded in 1986 with a contemporary southern california vibe. The brand continues to send out stylish and easy to care for ensembles.

This is a wonderful brand for my mommy friends who want to look pulled together from the playground to the PTA meeting.

I am especially partial to these two looks from the spring summer allen allen usa collection.

Now the question is: how many navy dresses does one girl need?

I collect navy dresses the same way I collect caftans, so maybe one more? Definitely something to think about…
