james dry goods is a design studio based in brooklyn, ny and is owned by jennifer – that’s me!
raised in oklahoma, i moved to NYC in 2000. 2 years turned into 16 and well…here we are!
before james dry goods was the home to my designs, it was the home of my thoughts – a blog i started after leaving a career of retail, design, and technology.
now i create new design collections twice a year – exclusively based on what i see missing in the market.
i love taking a very old craft or technique and updating the process to create a practical, functional, beautiful item!
last year, i hand painted canvas and sewed totes, clutches and journal covers. i also taught myself shibori and began applying this technique to any blank piece of fabric in my apartment, including some blank totes!
this fall, i created hand dyed shibori pillow covers with luxury zippers and upscale backing fabrics to update our homes before winter arrived! my shibori work has been recognized as a top textile handmade modern maker by iamthelab.
this spring, i started creating paintings using pour techniques, but the shibori tote demand (and my desire to make them) hasn’t waned, so i will continue to produce them until the end of april.
whew. you know those days where you think, “what in the world have i accomplished?!? maybe nothing?” i feel that a few times a week, but looking at that last list made me pretty proud.
so, browse around for some of my favorite essays (this is one of my favorites about creative comparisons) and vintage pictures (oh man, my parents are so cool). check out my favorite art shows of the past few years. or even get a behind the scenes look at my creative process (snow dyeing is fun)!
and if you would like to become a stockist, drop me a line (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let’s chat!
and if you want to see more of what i am up to just follow me on instagram!
thanks for swinging by and i hope to chat with you soon!
